The Australian Chapter on the History of Emotions

About the Chapter

Welcome to the Australian Chapter of the Society for the History of Emotions (ACHE). As an affiliate of the international Society for the History of Emotions (SHE), we are dedicated to exploring the rich and diverse field of emotions throughout history. Our chapter is a continuation of the Australian Research Council-funded Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions (CHE). The CHE ran from 2011 until 2022 and played a vital role in advancing the study of historical emotions globally.

The Australian Chapter of the Society for the History of Emotions was established to foster interdisciplinary research and collaboration among scholars, researchers, and enthusiasts interested in the history of emotions in Australasia. Our mission is to promote a deeper understanding of how emotions have shaped human experiences, societies, cultures, and identities over time. We are open to scholars of all disciplines and methodological backgrounds that explore emotions as historically and culturally situated phenomena, and our work ranges from the far past to the current day.
