Why should I join SHE?
The Society for the History of Emotions (SHE) originally began as as a project of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions: Europe 1100-1800 (CHE). It was created with the purpose of bringing together scholars interested in emotions study from all different fields and disciplines. By joining SHE you will become part of a global network of people who are not only interested in studying past emotions but who are committed to producing internationally recognised research that can have a positive and lasting impact on society today.
What do I get as a member?
As a member of SHE you will get:
- Access to our journal Emotions, History, Culture, Society published by Brill twice a year.
- Discounted rates to attend our Biennial conferences (INCLUDING OUR UPCOMING 2025 CONFERENCE).
- The option of having your publications promoted on our Member Publications page and through our social media channels.
- Having your name and country posted on our Members List which shows that you are affiliated with us. If you are happy to have your name displayed on our website, please select YES on the ‘Permission to Publish Name on Website’ option on the form.
Renewing Members
All SHE members are required to renew their membership on an annual basis. If you are a renewing member from the previous year, you will receive an email from us telling you when it is time to renew. This is usually sent in January of the new year. Members from previous years are welcome to renew their membership (rather than join as a new member). If you are unsure as to whether or when you last renewed your membership, please check the lists of previous members provided on our Members List. Alternatively, drop us an email at societyhistoryemotions@gmail.com.
What types of membership does SHE offer?
The Society for the History of Emotions currently operates on an annual membership system. This means that you can subscribe at anytime but that you will need to renew your membership at the start of the next year.

Are discounts available?
As a Society we understand that not everyone can afford full price membership so we offer discounts for those are students, unwaged, or live in a developing country. A full list of prices can be found below.
Standard Online Only – Full price membership which includes online access to the journal – $70 AUD
Standard Print/Online – Full price membership which includes online access to the journal and will mean you get a print copy delivered to your door $85 AUD
Concession Online Only – Discounted membership rate for students and the unwaged which includes online access to the journal – $45 AUD
Concession Print/Online – Discounted membership rate for students and the unwaged which includes online access to the journal and ensures that you get a print copy delivered to your door – $60 AUD
Developing Online Only – Full price membership which includes online access to the journal for members from economically developing countries – $52.50 AUD
Developing Print/Online – Full price membership which includes which includes online access to the journal and ensures that you get a print copy delivered to your door for members from economically developing countries – $63.75 AUD
Developing Concession Online – Discounted membership rate for students and the unwaged which includes online access to the journal for members from economically developing countries – $33.75 AUD
Developing Concession Print/Online – Discounted membership rate for students and the unwaged which includes online access to the journal and ensures that you get a print copy delivered to your door for members from economically developing countries – $45.00 AUD
